The 7 train isn't looking so hot this year

No service to Manhattan for 22 weekends, some of those with no service at all in Western Queens. Say it ain't so.

No more street vendors?

They've been chased off by the cops, at the instigation of business interests. Boo! Hiss! Let me tell you, Mr. Restaurant Owner, I don't care how unfair you think it is, but when I'm in the mood for chicken and rice for $5, I'm not going to go spend $15 on some rather fancier food in your establishment. I'll just get the C&R in Manhattan, eat there, and give you nothing.

Bad restaurant reviews: Mama's Empanadas

It's open late. Cheap. Delicious. Try the tuna empanada, it's the best in the city. Takeout recommended, but you can sit at the counter if you really want. This is the Greenpoint Ave. location, of course.

Salt and Fat makes the list!

The Michelin Guide has released its "Bib Gourmand" picks for the forthcoming 2014 dining guide. These are restaurants that the guide highlights for excellence on a budget (defined as two courses and wine or dessert for $40 a head).

Operational status

My bedroom, due to a lack of a floor lamp and nightstand, doesn't feel like a room. I could also use half a hundred bookshelves. Otherwise, solid.

Local Government

Today I learned that Sunnyside falls in Queens Community Board 2, and the meetings are the first Thursday of the month.

Housewarming party!

Our housewarming party was last weekend, and I would say it approached the epic category, so I was satisfied. Thanks to everyone who came, sorry for those that couldn't make it, and foo to those who said that they would come and didn't. Except for Peter because he gave us the couches, so I'm cool with him ditching the party. Special thanks to Karen for helping me fix the couches, and various other individuals who provided tasty food, drink, and various implements which are required to entertain guests.
